GUIDELINE & RESPONSIBILITIES

We require these guidelines to be agreed to and followed to ensure the best possible installation and after-care result for all our products.

Please read our recommendations carefully and ensure all parties involved are made fully aware of our site and product-care requirement guidelines.

Eaton Square cannot be held responsible for any unsatisfactory results if these guidelines are not followed.

Note that it is the client’s responsibility to employ a reputable contractor, and to ensure the contractor follows these guidelines.

It is the contractor’s responsibility to be fully familiar with the guidelines, and to follow these rules on a daily basis.

WOOD

The client, & client’s nominated contractor, assume the ambient temperature and environment are suitable for the flooring materials (Wood & Carpet) and that the ambient temperature, and the environment meet the following requirements:

  • Code of Practice for the installation of textile floor coverings BS Standard BS5325-1996 sections 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 3.2.1, 4.1G, 4.1H, 4.2.12.
  • Code of Practice for the installation of resilient floor coverings BS8203-2001 sections 3.1.3, 3.2.1, 3.2.2.1, 3.9, 4.4.1.
  • Code of Practice for the installation of laminate flooring BS8425-2003 sections 4.5.2E 4.5.2F, 4.5.2H, 5.1, 5.1A, 5.1B, 5.1C, 5.1E, 5.1G, 7.2.

This must apply for the entire duration of the contract. The environment and ambient temperature must remain suitable thereafter, and you must, when providing us with the environmental details, take into account any specific recommendations from any of the specified manufacturers for the materials we supply.

It is responsibility of the Client, and the Client’s contractor to ensure the site is suited to the materials provided for installation (wood or carpet) after taking into account the guidelines.

Non-compliance with the recommendations above will invalidate all warranties implied by law, or those contained in this agreement to the extent adversely affected by such non-compliance.

Following these guidelines will ensure, as much as possible, that no problems will arise with the flooring during installation, or with the floors and flooring materials later down the line.

Preparation of the site before installation, and maintaining a stable environment after installation.

Prior to installation of the wooden floors, the client, & client’s nominated contractor are required to prepare the site by ensuring the following conditions are met:

  • The underfloor heating needs to be turned off 48 hours prior to commencement of laying the floor.
  • The ambient temperature of the rooms needs to be between 18 °C and 23 °C.
  • The timber floor needs to be able to be stored in the room to be fitted at the ambient temperature (18 °C to 23 °C) for 48 hours before fitting.
  • The moisture content in the air needs to be between 40% and 70%.
  • The residual construction moisture needs to be 75% or less in screeded areas.
  • When the underfloor heating is turned on it needs to be turned up by 1 Degree Centigrade per day not exceeding 26 °C. This is to avoid shocking the wood which will open up the joints more than seasonal change and possibly crack the top wear layer.

Please note that since wood is a natural product, it expands and contracts as its moisture content changes. Engineered or solid wood floor coverings have the same properties, consequently the dimensional stability of an Engineered or solid wood floor is influenced by the ambient conditions of the environment.

The wood product will therefore require expansion gaps at all walls and junctions. The client & clients nominated contractor may not have allowed for beading to go around the edge of the wood floor to cover this up.

You should assume the skirting boards will be laid after your installation in order to cover the expansion gaps.

Once the wood flooring is installed and the underfloor heating is in use, due to the thermal resistance of different types of floor finishes the underfloor heating must be commissioned to prevent the surface temperature of the timber from exceeding 27 °C.

Sub-floor must be smooth and level in order to be ready to receive floor coverings, and technically dry (residual construction moisture needs to be 75% or less in screeded areas at the time of installation). The accepted industry standard for smooth and level is a variation of no more than 3mm over a distance of 3m.

WOOD COLOURS

Due to natural variations in wood, it is not possible to obtain an exact colour match between different production batches.

For this reason, all samples (previous or future samples) are a guide to colour and may not be an exact match on the stain lot or batch that is getting used for your specific job.

GRADING

Please take note if we have quoted for 189mm / 220mm wide rustic engineered boards. Rustic Grade means there will be knots and variations in colour. It is also hand finished. All of this means you will have a real natural wooden floor showing wonderful depth of colour which shows off the true character of the wood.

COLOUR FASTNESS

All natural wood is sensitive to light and/or oxygen, and over time the floors will change colour.

Follow maintenance guidelines to mitigate this natural occurrence. Since this is a natural character of all wooden floors, all colour changes and variations over time are specifically excluded from our limited warranty.

CARPET

Pile Crush/Tracking/Shading/Pile Reversal

Through use and in time all carpets will flatten to a certain degree. This is most noticeable in areas of concentrated use.

Since this is not due to manufacturing faults, we cannot accept responsibility for complaints arising from these flattening effects.

Similarly, shading & pile reversal is also a normal characteristic of cut pile carpets, and is not considered to be a manufacturing defect.

INSTALLATION

This is a specialist product and should only be installed by professional carpet fitters.

We recommend the installer is provided with a sample of the selected carpet, to ensure they are familiar with the product and its suitability for the location and the proposed installation method.

All aspects of sub-floor preparation and installation should be in accordance with BS5325/2001.

Additional technical information is a available on request.

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

A free guide, giving handy hints on regular and programmed maintenance, is available free of charge on request.

All information provided above and technical advice whether verbal, written or by way of trial samples is for guidance only.

It is submitted in good faith but without warranty, since the skill of the installer, site conditions and local factors may not be considered under our control.

This carpet can be dry cleaned. No warranty is expressed or implied. The responsibility for cleaning and maintenance lies with those who perform the task.

This product has natural fibre in it. It is not as stain resistant as wool and that is why we think this product is best suited for bedrooms and formal rooms.

TOLERANCES

All specifications are subject to normal manufacturing tolerances. The company reserves the right to modify carpet specifications without notice, unless such modifications may affect performance.

PREPARATION OF THE INSTALLATION SITE

We assume you have allowed for heating or ventilation, and assume the ambient temperature and environment are suitable for the flooring materials within the supply quote we have given, and that the ambient temperature and the environment meet the:

  • Code of Practice for the installation of textile floor coverings BS Standard BS5325-1996 sections 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 3.2.1, 4.1G, 4.1H, 4.2.12.

This must apply throughout the duration of the contract, the environment and ambient temperature must remain suitable thereafter, and you must, when providing us with the environment/site details, take account of any specific recommendations from any of the specified manufacturers.

Non-compliance of the site with the above requirements will invalidate all warranties implied by law or contained in this agreement to the extent adversely affected by such non-compliance.

CARPET COLOURS AND DYE LOTS

Due to variations in bulk dye lots, it is not possible to obtain an exact colour match between different production batches. For this reason, all samples (previous or future samples) are a guide to colour and may not be an exact match on the dye lot or batch that is getting used for your specific job.

Where a specific colour is required and under condition that it is actually possible to achieve with the dyeing / manufacturing method of your chosen carpet, (it is not possible with all carpets and dying) we recommend that a stock cutting (or a pomm from the exact dye batch for your job) is requested.

Unless YOU specifically request this we will assume that it is NOT required since this is not standard practice. Note that if this is requested, it WILL have an effect on stated lead times.

Sticking down of carpets / Sticky Protection

When carpet is stuck down then the following conditions must apply prior to any protection, especially sticky protection.

The protection cannot be laid for a minimum of 48 hours after carpet installation, as covering up the carpet does not allow the adhesives to breathe properly, and draws the moisture from the adhesive through the carpet.

This could drastically change the appearance of the carpet in an effect called ‘water marking or pile reversal’.

When Bamboo / Silk / Viscose or Sylka carpet is supplied by Eaton Square, please remember if you want to protect the carpet we do not allow sticky protection to be used. If you are going to protect the carpet, please ensure that an alternative non-adhesive based protection is used.

FIBRES IN BAMBOO & SILK, VISCOSE & LUXOR CARPETS

Due to the delicate nature of the fibres in Bamboo, Silk, Viscose & Luxor Carpets, there is a risk of pile turning. This is an effect in which the surface pile might become more distorted than in other areas.

The chances of this happening is greater in areas of high foot traffic. This is known risk associated with these fibres and Eaton Square does not accept responsibility for, nor provide any kind of warranty against pile turning.

BAMBOO / SILK / VISCOSE – MAINTENANCE

Due to their nature, some natural fibre floor-coverings, e.g. Bamboo / Silk / Viscose / Jute / Sisal are prone to water marking / staining when water is spilt on them.

Natural floor-coverings are extremely absorbent and should therefore only be used indoors and away from areas of excessive moisture.

Under no circumstances should they be wet cleaned or shampooed. We recommend you have the carpets treated with a stain inhibition system.
